Technical visits – a climate-neutral society

To reduce our climate impact, we must transition to a circular society where resources are used over and over again.

Luleå Municipality aims to become climate-neutral by 2040, meaning that all activities within the municipality’s borders should take place without contributing to global warming. To achieve this, the municipality is working strategically in five key areas: transport, buildings, physical planning, energy, and consumption. This work is carried out both within the municipal organization and in collaboration with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders.

Fossil-Free Public Transport

From 2030, Luleå Lokaltrafik (LLT) plans to operate only biogas and electric buses on all routes within the Luleå urban area.

Sustainable Travel

The project “L till Å” focuses on creating better conditions for more people to choose walking, cycling, or public transport instead of driving—especially for short trips. By developing infrastructure, providing information, inspiring change, and shifting attitudes, Luleå Municipality aims to reduce its climate footprint and improve quality of life in the city. The goal is to make it easy to make the right choice—for both the environment and people.

Innovative Stormwater Management

ISWIM is a development project aimed at creating new, sustainable solutions for managing and purifying stormwater in cold climates. The project is led by Lumire in collaboration with research and community partners, focusing on reducing pollution from hard surfaces such as roads and parking lots before the water reaches lakes and waterways.

Sustainable Wastewater Treatment in Cold Climates

ArcticSewlutions is a research project in which Lumire develops sustainable solutions for wastewater treatment in cold and sparsely populated areas. The goal is to find effective technologies that can withstand future climate conditions and improve water quality in northern regions.
