Luleå On Ice

22–25 februari 2024. Have an ice day!

Schaatsen Luleå

Schaatsen is one of Luleå’s major international winter events and takes place the same week as Luleå on Ice. For several days, the frozen sea hosts long-distance skaters and world-class athletes competing in a variety of disciplines, all on one of the most spectacular natural ice tracks in the world. The audience gets to experience speed, skill and dramatic racing up close.

The course

Schaatsen takes place on an approximately 8.4 kilometer natural ice track on the frozen sea in Södra Hamnen. The combination of sea ice and the proximity to the city creates a unique arena where spectators can get unusually close to the action.

Start and finish are located in Södra Hamnen, and the course can be viewed from several points around the ice. During the competition days, it is also possible to skate in Norra Hamnen if you want to combine watching the events with your own skating.

About Sea Ice Marathon

The Sea Ice Marathon is one of the most unique running events held on frozen sea ice. Runners from around the world take on the distances in an Arctic landscape shaped by ice, snow and wind, creating a dramatic and unforgettable setting.

About the Tourskate Event

On 27 February, the ice fills with long-distance skaters taking on different distances along a course laid out across the frozen sea outside Luleå. The skaters move through the open winter landscape, offering a striking visual experience for spectators watching from Södra Hamnplan or along the route.

About the Grand Prix

Throughout the week, several Grand Prix races take place featuring international top athletes. Competitors race in both marathon and sprint disciplines, and the looped course makes it easy for spectators to follow the skaters as they pass multiple times and experience the excitement up close.
