Technical visits – residential development

As Luleå grows, up to 800 new homes need to be built each year until 2040. That is almost twice as many as are being built in the municipality in 2024.

The municipally owned housing company Lulebo has been tasked with building between 450 and 900 new homes by the end of 2027. The municipality is also planning so-called contractor housing—temporary accommodations for people who travel here to work for a limited time—at Porsön and Hertsöheden.

Kronan - Kronandalen

Kronan is a new, sustainable district in central Luleå that combines proximity to the city center with nature and outdoor life. The area is being developed with the goal of becoming a vibrant and green neighborhood with space for around 7,000 residents when completed around 2030.

Hertsöheden

Hertsöheden is Luleå Municipality’s next major housing initiative, where a new, sustainable residential area is being built for up to 4,000 residents. The area is located about five kilometers east of the city center, between Hertsön and Ormberget, and is being planned with a focus on proximity to nature, safety, and a sustainable lifestyle.
