How to use the gas stove and refrigerator in the archipelago cottages

In the municipality’s archipelago cottages on Småskär, Kluntarna and Brändöskär, the refrigerator and stove run on gas. Here you’ll find instructional videos and information on how the gas system works.

Main Gas Shutoff

During the summer, from Midsummer week until mid‑August, you should always keep the main control valve for the gas refrigerator turned on in the cottages. This ensures that the refrigerator remains running throughout the summer.

For the rest of the year, you should always turn off the main gas control valve in the cottages.

How the gas stove works

In the video, you can see how to start the gas stove in the cottage. Feel free to turn off the main shutoff valve for the stove when you're not using it. This ensures that it is completely turned off.

How the gas refrigerator works

In the summer, the gas refrigerator should already be running when you arrive at the cottage. If it isn’t, or if you are visiting during another season, you can watch the video to see how to start the refrigerator.

During the summer, leave the gas refrigerator running when you leave the cottage. At all other times of the year, turn off the gas refrigerator using the main shutoff valve.

Good to know about the gas system in the cottages

The cottage is equipped with a gas detector that will sound an alarm if there is a gas leak. The gas detector is powered by solar panels and is inspected at the beginning of the summer season. Avoid overloading the solar panels, for example by charging several mobile phones at once, as this may trigger the alarm due to low power.

In case of suspected gas leakage

If you have difficulty breathing, notice a strong smell, or hear a hissing sound:

1. Ask everyone to leave the cottage
2. Extinguish all open flames / do not light any flames
3. Do not switch electrical equipment on or off
4. Close the main gas valve, and then the remaining valves
5. Ventilate by opening windows
6. Leave the building
7. Notify the archipelago staff or Luleå Tourist Center
8. Do not take any further action until the smell of gas has completely disappeared
9. In an emergency, contact the Emergency Services at 112 if deemed necessary.
