Luleå’s Deputy Mayor was named Politician of the Year 2016 at the Opinion-Moulder of the Year gala in Stockholm. Media companies Dagens Opinion and Reform Act organised the gala for the third time.
The award goes to a politician in Sweden who has distinguished himself/herself particularly in terms of political ideas, moving positions forward, moulding public opinion, and ability to turn ideas into decisions.
“It’s great to see our new ideas and work for growth and development in Luleå receive this kind of attention. Becoming the politician of the year is a great honour; competition was stiff,” says Niklas Nordström, Luleå’s Deputy Mayor.
Other nominees were Ibrahim Baylan, Minister of Policy Coordination and Energy, and Isabella Lövin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Development Cooperation and Climate.
The award was motivated as follows: “Niklas has used his communication skills to put his city on the national map while never hesitating to take on national debate concerning important issues.”
At the gala, which took place at museum Fotografiska in Stockholm (on March 9th), awards were also given out for editorial writer of the year, opinion-moulder of the year, digital opinion-moulder of the year, communication consultant of the year and grass root of the year.
Dagens Opinion is a politically independent media company aimed at everyone working with moulding public opinion.
