Luleå has been named Norrland’s Super Municipality of the Year by newspaper Dagens Samhälle.
The Super Municipality of the Year title acknowledges the municipalities that are best prepared to meet the societal challenges of the future. The Dagens Samhälle newspaper has looked at all Sweden’s municipalities, comparing population growth, employment, net migration rate, demographic profile, finances, income development, educational level and so on.
One municipality per land has been crowned winner:
“I’m very happy that we’ve been named Norrland’s Super Municipality. It’s proof that Luleå’s positive development continues, and that we are prepared for future challenges,” says Municipal Commissioner Yvonne Stålnacke, and continues:
“We have plenty to be proud of in Luleå. The most important for us are the high scores we received from the people of Luleå in the citizen survey that Statistics Sweden carried out at the end of last year.”
The award was presented at the Great Society Gala on May 28th. The Chair of the Municipal Council, Maritha Meethz, Municipal Director Anne Karlenius, and Head of Finance, Lars Åhl, were all present in Stockholm to receive the award.
