Ice track in central Luleå
Every year, Luleå Municipal Recreation Department has an ice track kept clear of snow and leading from Norra Hamn, around Gültzauudden to Södra Hamn, and on to Gråsjälören. In recent years a side road has been cleared across the river to Bergnäset and towards Mjölkudden. The Recreation Department begins to prepare the ice track in December - February, depending what winter has been like and how the ice has grown. The ice track is often ready for visitors in the beginning of February, but this does vary. The routing of the ice track can vary from year to year depending on ice quality: the map shows a typical routing. Map of ice track. The ice track is suitable for skating, tour skating and kick-sleighing. A border is left unsmoothed for those wishing to walk without slipping. The stretch from Norra Hamn out to Gråsjälören is about 7 km long. With the two side-tracks it adds up to over 10 km.
