Altappen
On Altappen you can find artefacts from the beginning of the industrial era, about a century ago. At that time there was both a smelting plant (rolling mill according to the other Altappen reference!) and a sawmill on the island. In 1908 the whole community was completely destroyed by fire and Altappen was depopulated.
The City of Luleå has built a number of facilities on the island such as jetties, earth closets, a day cabin, barbecue areas and trails.
The company Altappen Tourism offers those who visit the island guided nature and cultural walks through the historic landscape. The also offers guiding in their interesting Industrial museum. Are you hungry, you can visit Altappen Tourism restaurant whose menu contains miscellaneous Norrbotten delights. Altappen Tourism are also happy to arrange various activities in both summer and winter.

Worth seeing:
Remains of the industrial era. Altappen Tourism organizes guided tours of the island´s industrial heritage sites, and other activities by request. They also offers good meals in their restaurant.
