On Altappen you can find artefacts from the beginning of the industrial era, about a century ago. At that time there was both a smelting plant (rolling mill according to the other Altappen reference!) and a sawmill on the island. In 1908 the whole community was completely destroyed by fire and Altappen was depopulated. The City of Luleå has built a number of facilities on the island such as jetties, earth closets, a day cabin, barbecue areas and trails.
The company Altappen Tourism
