Alternate routes and required marine charts
Alternative A
Sail near the coast, mainly in sheltered waters with many natural harbours and marinas to choose from. You´ll sail through many very attractive archipelagos, and you can avoid the open sea.
The total distance of the inshore Bornholm-Luleå route is about 750 nautical miles.
For coastal sailing, we recommend the Swedish leisure-boating charts series F, C, A and H, which cover all charting requirements along the coastal stretch Karlskrona-Hudiksvall.
North of Hudiksvall, use the regular archipelago charts, 411-415, 421-422, 511-514, 522-525, 532 and 533. Total coast of charts is about 500 euros.
Alternative B
The shortest open-sea route from Bornholm to Luleå is about 660 nautical miles.
Along this route, you will pass close to several larger ports where you can moor to bunker, rest, etc.
For voyages across open sea, the Swedish general marine charts numbers 8, 7, 5 and 4 may be used, and for Luleå Archipelago, use Swedish charts 411, 412, 413, 414 and 415. Total coast of charts is about 200 euros.

Digital marine charts
Various issues of digital marine charts are available for the entire area. In spring of 2003, the Swedish Maritime Administration will issue a CD entitled “The living marine chart", with all raster-based charts for the stretch Århus-Öregrund, including supplementary information on harbours and service. Price: 150 euros. Includes a simple navigation program, but cannot be used in other programs available on the market.
Swedish digital marine charts in BSB format can be purchased from Solteknik HB. Price: about 15 euros/chart.
Special marine charts
Certain important sections of Luleå Archipelago are covered by special marine charts; “Båtleder i Luleå skärgård" parts 1 and 2.
