The Archipelago Trail
The Archipelago Trail is a walking trail in Luleå Archipelago set up on the initiative of the tourist office in Luleå. The trail begins at Luleå/Kallax Airport, continuing to Tjuvholmssundet, Sandön, Likskär-Altappen, Hertsölandet, Hindersön, Strömmingsören and Brändöskär.
Rowing boats may be borrowed for the short crossings to nearby islands. Longer crossing are by small ferries which you can book in advance. There is information about this at the tourist office in Luleå.

A group of people walking the Archipelago trail
The Archipelago Trail makes it possible for anyone to walk from the mainland to the outermost islands. The trail largely follows existing paths or roads. Other stretches follow the shoreline. In many places the trail is not signposted and therefore you need a map and trail description to find your way. Besides helping you find your way, the trail description contains plenty of facts about the landscape you will pass through. You are given information about sights, flora, fauna, geology and much more.
You can buy a trail description and map for 60 kr at Luleå tourist office.
Weather and wind
The weather and wind can change quickly in the archipelago and for that reason you should take along clothing for different weather conditions. Even on warm summer days, the wind can be troublesome and cold, while soon afterwards the wind can drop to nothing and the temperature can rise dramatically. Showers on sunny days are not unusual. We recommend that you take along the following basic gear: rain clothing, light windproof jacket, sunglasses, sturdy comfortable shoes (the whole stretch is dry underfoot but a lot of it is uneven). Headgear and gloves are called for when walking in spring and autumn. Take along a water bottle, which can be filled at Klubbviken, Lövskär fishing harbour and Jopikgården. When there is no wind, there can be mosquitoes and horseflies, so insect repellent will be useful. With a pair of binoculars round your neck and a flora guide and bird book in your rucksack, you will get more enjoyment from your observations. Booking accommodation and transport
Remember to book boat transport and accommodation if needed. Your stay can be in a tent or at the facilities at Klubbviken or Jopikgården. Get more information and buy the trail description at Luleå Tourist Office.
The Nature Trail on Kluntarna
There is also a shorter walking trail, the Nature Trail, on the island of Kluntarna. With a map and trail description you can walk round the island learning about the flora, fauna, geology, etc. of Kluntarna and seeing the sights. Get more information and buy the trail description at Luleå Tourist Office.
