Windows and doors

Practically all the church cottages have shutters, which the owners close before leaving Gammelstad. Shutters were most unusual however in ordinary homes. Old window frames are often of excellent quality even though the paint may be peeling. Windows with removable inner frames retain heat just as well as double glazing if they fit the window frame well. If you continually renew the putty and paint, your old windows will last for many generations to come.

All the beautiful fittings in the church cottage show that the owner has spent both time and money on the church cottage. Look after it well. Always use white linseed (linolja)-based paint and linseed putty.
