Celebrate the National Day of Sweden at Hägnan!


Saturday the 6th June is the National day of Sweden. Join in the fun as
open-air museum Hägnan invites everyone to take part in the festivities, from 11:30am and onwards!

Hoising of the Swedish flag, speaches, music, dancing and crafts as well as horse riding and other kids activites.

Guided tour of Gammelstad Church Town


The very best way to experience Gammelstad Church Town is by joining a guided tour! Tickets are avaliable via Visitor Centre and can be purchased before 3pm on the day of the tour. Cost SEK100/each. Tours are available in Swedish and English.

1 April - 31 May
Every Saturday and Sunday at 3.30-4.30pm

During a guided tour you learn about the church town history and traditions, and the reasons behind its world heritage status. Visits inside a church cottage and in Nederluleå church are included in the tour (exception of church services in Nederluleå church).

It is also possible to book tours at other dates and times, and languages. Please contact Visitor Centre for more information.

Drop-in guided tours June-August 2015


Visitor Centre (located on the church square) offers information, exhibition and short films, gift shop and guided site tours. Tickets for the guided tours are SEK80/each and can be purchased at Visitor Centre before the start of the tour. Free of charge for children aged 16 and below.

During summer season 2015 Visitor Centre is open:

6th June - 31st August
Monday - Friday 8am-6:30pm
Saturday - Sunday 10am - 6pm

Drop-in guided tours during this period:
Monday-Friday at 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 7pm
Saturday and Sunday at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

UNESCO added Gammelstad church town to their world heritage list in 1996 - motivated by its outstanding universal value and its relevance to all mankind.

The Gammelstad site is the world's most extensive and best preserved example of a church town, with more than 400 church cottages gathered around a medieval stone church.
