Guided tours of Gammelstad Church Town every Sunday!

The best way to experience Gammelstad Church Town is to join a guided tour. The Visitor Centre offer guided tours of the world heritage site every Sunday until the end of april. 

On a guided tour you learn about the church towns history and traditions, as well as why it is a world heritage. A visit in a church cottage and in Nederluleå church is included in the tour (with exeption of church services in Nederluleå chruch).

The tour start at 15.30 every Sunday. You purchase tickets at the Visitor Centre at the latest at 15.00 the same day. The price for a ticket is 100 SEK/person. The tours are available in Swedish and English.

Activities for children in Gammelstad 4/3-7/3


During the spring holiday, 4-7/3, the open-air museum Hägnan offers activites for children from 11.00 to 15.00.

Make arts and crafts and try baking in a wood fired owen. You can also join the dramatized fairytale inspired walk, starting every 20 minutes between 11.30 - 14.00, 4-6/3.

On Saturday 7/3 at 12.00 - 15.00, the Visitor Centre hosts World heritage Saturday for the entire family. Arts, crafts and more.

New opening hours at the Visitor Centre


As of February first 2015 the Visitor Centre has the following opening hours:

Monday - thursday 12.00 - 16.30
Sunday 12.00 - 15.00, guided tour at 15.30

At the Visitor Centre our staff will help you with information, you can visit our exhibition, watch the slideshows or buy a souvenir in our small shop.

UNESCO added Gammelstad church town to their world heritage list in 1996 - motivated by its outstanding universal value and its relevance to all mankind.

The Gammelstad site is the world's most extensive and best preserved example of a church town, with more than 400 church cottages gathered around a medieval stone church.
